Probabilities and counterfactuals

Paolo Santorio (University of California San Diego, USA) and Fabrizio Cariani (Northwestern University, USA)

Our course will explore the interaction between the semantics of counterfactuals and theories of probability. In particular, we will investigate the plausibility of linking probabilities of counterfactuals to a suitable notion of conditional probability, following up on work by Brian Skyrms, Richard Bradley, and others. We will aim to bring together research in linguistic semantics, philosophical logic, probability theory, and experimental psychology.
